TONE3000

TONE3000 hosts amp, pedal, cabinet and room captures shared by their creators. OpenRig uses the TONE3000 API to list them and download them on the pedalboard, without a computer.

From an Amp block to a new capture in a few taps. Marshall JCM 800 2203 by @sarcobe.

This is done once, with your TONE3000 account. No key or application to create: OpenRig signs in through its own TONE3000 application.

  1. On the pedalboard, open ⋮ → Settings → TONE3000 Connect and tap Connect. The pedalboard shows a QR code and a short code.

  2. Scan the QR code with your phone, or open tone3000.com/activate and enter the code, then approve OpenRig. The card then says Signed in as your TONE3000 username.

The link survives restarts and going offline. Disconnect removes it from the pedalboard.

Open it from a block’s editor with the TONE3000 row at the top of the model list (see Model), or from ⋮ → TONE3000.

The Trending tab, opened from an Amp block: only amps are listed, each with its creator. The search field is at the top.

Search TONE3000, at the top, opens the keyboard: type an amp, a pedal or a creator, then Search. The search is sent only then, never while typing, and keeps the gear filter. ✕ goes back to the tabs.

Opened from a block, the library only lists the gear that block can play: amps for an Amp block, pedals and outboard gear for a Pedal block, cabinets for a Cabinet… Opened from the menu, every gear can be chosen.

Tap a tone to see its captures, its creator, its license and its page on tone3000.com.

The Marshall JCM800 2203x tone by @pamukparty: Classic Crunch already downloaded with its Use button, Edge of Breakup and Heavy ticked, Download (2)
A tone and its captures: two are ticked. Each one is downloaded only when you tick it.

Tick the captures you want, then tap Download (n). They are downloaded one after the other: each one shows Waiting… then Downloading…, the bar at the bottom shows its progress, and Stop drops the ones still waiting. A tone with a single capture comes ticked already.

Edge of Breakup downloaded, Heavy downloading, and the bar saying Downloading 2 of 2 with a Stop button
Downloading: one capture after the other, Stop drops the ones still waiting.

Large tones are shown 25 captures per page, with ‹ › to turn the pages. Select all (Select page on a large tone) ticks every capture of the page shown, and Clear unticks them. You can tick 25 captures at most at a time: TONE3000 asks apps not to download a whole pack of hundreds of captures at once.

The EVH 5150iii Ivory FULL Pack with 28 captures: page 1 of 2, its captures ticked by Select page, Download (13)
A pack of 28 captures, page 1 of 2: Select page ticked the ones not on the pedalboard yet. EVH 5150iii Ivory FULL Pack by @ampspedalspickups.

Once a capture is on the pedalboard, it shows:

  • Use, opened from a block: loads it into that block;
  • Add, opened from the menu: puts it in a new block of the right type at the end of the chain.
The JCM800 Classic Crunch, Edge of Breakup and Heavy captures downloaded, each with its Use button
Downloaded: Use loads it into the Amp block it was opened from.

Downloads go to models/Tone3000/<gear>/<tone>/ with a tone.json that keeps the title, creator, license and link. The block’s editor then shows the tone’s picture and creator, and the block carries the TONE3000 mark in the rack.

  • Captures in the NAM and IR formats can be played. AIDA-X, Proteus and AA snapshot tones are listed but greyed out.
  • Favoriting is done on tone3000.com for now: what you favorite there shows in Favorites.
  • Every request to TONE3000 waits its turn, to stay under its rate limit: when you go fast, the pedalboard can show Waiting for TONE3000… for a moment.
  • Your sign-in is kept only on the pedalboard, and only ever sent to tone3000.com.
  • Respect each capture’s license: it is shown on the tone, and kept with the files.
